About the module:
This elearning module helps health professionals and carers/support workers learn how to use Beyond Words’ stories and pictures to support people with communication around health and wellbeing.
Course overview:
Session 1: Understanding learning disability and autism and the legislative framework
Session 2: The importance of health screening and vaccinations
Session 3: Health education
Session 4: Planning in advance for contact with health professionals
Session 5: Explaining some health conditions
Session 6: Putting learning into practice: See one, do one, teach one
The simple but powerful techniques explained in this module will equip you with the skills and confidence to use our picture resources to deal with questions, concerns, or fears about a range of health issues people may face in their lives.
The module also includes information and guidance on:
The annual health check
How to use hospital passports and one-page profiles
Guidance on how to work with sensitive issues, including grief and end of life care
Designing an intervention, or personal development plans
Guidance on how to use Beyond Words’ picture resources to build your own case studies.
Completing this module will take about two hours, including watching the videos. Some additional time is required to create your own case studies, or personal development plans and make reflective notes.
